Role Summary:
thinkIT seeks a dynamic and experienced Field Coordinator Officer with a strong background in agronomy to oversee field activities under the AGILE (Agriculture Growth and Innovation for Livelihood Enhancement) project. This role involves leading community-based agricultural interventions, coordinating extension services, managing stakeholder relationships, and ensuring effective implementation of training programs in the coffee and horticulture value chains.

Tasks and Deliverables

The tasks of the Extension/ Agri Officer are;
Tasks and Responsibilities
1. Field Coordination & Stakeholder Engagement
• Coordinate project activities across field sites in Kikuube.
• Act as the primary liaison between thinkIT, local partners (AWYAD, P4T), district authorities, and community-based actors.
• Mobilize and coordinate farmers, youth, and women for training, cooperatives, and VSLAs.
2. Agronomic Extension Services
• Lead deployment and mentoring of Community-Based Extension Workers (CBEWs).
• Provide direct agronomic training in climate-smart practices, GAP, and post-harvest handling.
• Support block farming initiatives including land mapping, planning, and governance formation.
3. Training & Capacity Building
• Facilitate practical on-site training in horticulture/agronomy aligned with project curricula.
• Support ToT activities and mentor youth and women agripreneurs.
• Assist in curriculum customization based on community feedback and field assessments.
4. Monitoring, Evaluation & Reporting
• Collect and compile data for project indicators including training attendance, employment outcomes, and cooperative development.
• Support data entry into project databases and contribute to bi-annual assessments and reports.
• Identify gaps and provide timely feedback to the project management team.
5. Market Linkages & Value Addition
• Coordinate aggregation points and post-harvest training.
• Support youth-led micro-franchises and value-addition initiatives within cooperatives.
• Facilitate farmer participation in market forums and contract farming engagements.
6. Liaison
• Support in business needs assessments for capacity building recommendations of target beneficiaries and Conduct community entry meetings at the settlement level with the help of the local partners.
• Identify any potential risks that the activity may face before starting beneficiary enrollment/community engagement activities and work with other key Identified sectors and actors to identify potential strategies to accelerate increased business growth.
• Identify priority areas of involvement that informs development of plans; and develop strategic and annual business plan that will holistically address the constraints of trade in the priority sectors of Horticulture, and Identify and develop Partnerships with other Market systems projects in the area for collaborations and linkages.
• Participate and represent thinkIT in various stakeholder meetings (OPM, UNHCR and Local governments) both ad hoc and scheduled ones.
• Profile and keep an updated list of the beneficiaries reached by the organization interventions.
• Engage in workplan development both at the consortium and organizational level and in coordination with the rest of the team.
• Maintain and build strong working relationships with business owners, policy makers and other stakeholders’ and Support and Establish Establishment of viable business focused Producer Organizations’ and Apex bodies in both the refugee and host communities.
• Ability to manage and execute multiple tasks with little supervision while meeting sometimes inflexible deadlines.
Final deliverables/Reporting and supervision
Activity report and financial report documents
Timeframe
The position has a 3 months’ probation period and an annual contract renewal will be based on performance and availability of funds.

Intellectual property
thinkIT will have the intellectual property rights over the knowledge product developed through this assignment.

Most Critical Proficiencies:
• Clear understanding of implementation area-Albertine region and particularly Kikuube /Kyangwali Host and Refugee communities.
• Innovative, analytical, and solutions oriented.
• Knowledge of enterprise development and linkages to poverty alleviation.
• Strong interpersonal/people management skills and excellent oral and written communication skills a must;
• Excellent organizational skills.

Required Qualifications & Experience:
• Degree in Business studies or equivalent in the fields of Agriculture Economics, Business Administration, Rural Development, Enterprise Development or other related field.
• Three (3) years’ experience in economic development value chain competitiveness, community engagement and or agriculture development.
• Significant experience in building public/private partnerships, preferably in the refugee and host communities.
• Prior experience in working with the multi cultured beneficiaries and appreciation of the market dynamics
• Familiarity with cooperative development, input distribution, and value chain interventions.
• Excellent organizational and reporting skills.
• Fluent in English and Runyakitara.
• Strong leadership skills, with a minimum of three years’ in managing commercial agribusiness or agribusiness development.
Desirable Attributes:
• Experience working in refugee-hosting districts or with humanitarian actors.
• Knowledge of digital tools for field data collection and reporting.
• Demonstrated ability to work independently and manage multiple priorities.
